The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are signing outside linebacker Shaq Barrett via multiple sources. The Pewter Pirates bring back a familiar face to help with their pass rush.

Via pewterreport.com,

“BREAKING: Pewter Report has learned that the #Bucs will be signing former Tampa Bay pass rusher and Super Bowl LV champion Shaq Barrett on Saturday morning. Barrett cleared waivers and is back with the Bucs to help with the team’s playoff push.”

Confirmed by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times,

“Bucs are signing Shaquil Barrett.”

As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Shaq Barrett, believes the veteran outside linebacker can make an instant impact, suiting up and contributing from the moment he puts pen to paper.

“We appreciate the Dolphins giving Shaq this opportunity to continue his career in the NFL,” via Shaq’s agent Drew Rosenhaus. “Hopefully he will pass through waivers and become a free agent so he can play again this season. He is in great shape and would be ready to play immediately.”

Barrett’s release in the offseason marked a shift towards youth at outside linebacker for the Buccaneers. The move followed a downturn in Barrett’s performance, as he recorded just 4.5 sacks in 2023 after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in 2022. Barrett had previously set the franchise’s single-season sack record with 19.5 in 2019.
