During his news conference on Monday, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll would not commit to keeping Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback for their Week 4 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Daboll's answers during Monday's press conference led Dan Duggan of The Athletic to write that he believes the Giants are set to turn over the starting job to rookie Jaxson Dart, but are waiting to make the change public.
"Daboll not saying anything one way or the other on who will be the starting QB on Sunday," Duggan posted on X. "A change is clearly being weighed internally. So after listening to Daboll's entire presser, they have to be making a QB change and he's just not ready to announce it."

During the news conference, Daboll said that "improving the passing game" was the "number one thing" the Giants needed to improve on after he reviewed tape the 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on "Sunday Night Football."
"Like I said yesterday, in order to improve the passing game, and I'd say that was the number one thing we need to improve from yesterday," Daboll said via SNY Giants, "everybody's got to be doing exactly the right stuff. So it's not all one guy. There's multiple reasons why."

Wilson went 18-of-32 passing for 160 yards and two interceptions against the Chiefs. He made a couple of errant throws in the red zone late in the fourth quarter, leading to skepticism that he can help the Giants get out of their funk that caused them to start the season 0-3.
The Giants traded up to take Dart with the No. 25 pick in April's draft. Daboll said that his staff would make personnel decisions for Week 4, including looking at the possibility that Dart would replace Wilson.
"We're working through all personnel decisions, and we'll do that over the next few days," Daboll said. "We're doing what we normally do."
The Giants, like most NFL teams, are not normally discussing who will be the starting quarterback during the season. As Duggan pointed out, Daboll's tone was similar to the one he used when the Giants moved on from Daniel Jones last season, saying he was "evaluating" the team and watching tape.

Nothing at this point is official, but the lack of defense from Daboll on Monday is a bad sign for Wilson. The 36-year-old quarterback signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the Giants in March.
