Buccaneers CB Richard Sherman (calf) on IR, out at least three weeks

As Charean Williams noted for Pro Football Talk, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said earlier this week that cornerback Richard Sherman likely wouldn't return to the lineup "anytime soon" because of the grade 2 calf strain he suffered warming up for what became this past Sunday's loss to the Washington Football Team that dropped the defending Super Bowl champions to 6-3 on the season.

There's now at least some timeline for Sherman's latest absence.

According to Jenna Laine of ESPN, the Buccaneers placed Sherman on injured reserve Wednesday. Per NFL rules, the veteran and five-time Pro Bowl selection must now miss a minimum of three additional games, beginning with the Week 11 "Monday Night Football" matchup against the New York Giants.

Sherman joined the Buccaneers in late September and appeared in three contests before he went down with a hamstring issue, and the 33-year-old hadn't taken the field since Oct. 14 before this latest setback. He now isn't eligible to return until Tampa Bay faces the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 12.

In his three appearances this fall, Sherman logged 11 total tackles and a fumble recovery.

As Joey Knight and Rick Stroud reported for the Tampa Bay Times, Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis hasn't played since Week 4 because of a quad injury but was seen running with a trainer Wednesday. Fellow cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting has been sidelined since he dislocated his elbow in the season opener but is also practicing and could potentially play versus the 3-6 Giants.
