Buccaneers LB Lavonte David thought Tom Brady would be 'arrogant'

Shortly after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LV in February 2021, linebacker Lavonte David remarked during an interview that "everybody" wanted to remain with the team to run it back and try to repeat as champions.

It appears David wasn't always convinced he'd want to spend that much time around all-time great quarterback Tom Brady, who originally joined the Buccaneers in March 2020.

According to a Joe Bucs Fan piece, David appeared on Thursday's edition of Fox Sports' "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" and spoke about who he expected Brady to be versus who the G.O.A.T. has been during his Tampa Bay tenure.

"Seeing him coming into the locker room just being himself. You know, every time when you get a guy like that in your locker room, you would expect him to act a certain way or be a certain way, kind of be like arrogant, you know, an A-hole as much," David explained. "But Tom, man, with all his success and his stuff that he’s been throughout the league, he’s just a normal guy. He just wants to be a part of the locker room and want to be like everyone else. He wants to joke around with you, he wants to just talk to you. You know, he knows everybody in the locker room, got great relationships with people. Just the way he leads, the way he carries himself on and off the field is incredible to witness."

Teammates such as Shaquil Barrett, Devin White, and Mike Evans all discussed during springtime workouts how hyped they felt after Brady ultimately changed his mind about his short-lived retirement to return to the Buccaneers for what may be a "last dance" of an NFL season. It's safe to assume David would add his name to that list of grateful Tampa Bay players.
