Buccaneers Name Successor to Legendary Broadcaster Gene Deckerhoff

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have found the successor to legendary broadcaster Gene Deckerhoff.

On Tuesday, the team announced the hiring of Tony Castricone as its new radio play-by-play announcer and team insider. Castricone replaces Deckerhoff, who retired following the 2025 season after 37 years behind the microphone.

Castricone brings more than 20 years of broadcasting experience to Tampa Bay. He spent the last nine years as the University of Washington’s Director of Broadcasting, serving as the radio voice of the Huskies’ football and men’s basketball programs.

Before joining Washington, Castricone called Clemson men’s basketball games from 2014-17. He also spent more than seven years at IMG Academy. During that time, he handled play-by-play duties while working as a studio host, network manager, and content producer.

The Buccaneers conducted an extensive nationwide search before selecting Castricone. Interestingly, he previously stepped into a similar situation at Washington. He replaced longtime broadcaster Bob Rondeau, who retired after 37 years as the voice of the Huskies.

Ford added that Castricone understands the significance of the role and has the ability to build lasting relationships with Buccaneers fans.

During his time at Washington, Castricone called several memorable moments. That included the Huskies’ run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game during the 2023 season.

Now, he will have the opportunity to create memorable calls for Buccaneers fans as the franchise pursues another championship.

It’s the honor of a lifetime to be entrusted with this extremely rare opportunity,Castricone said. “I’d like to thank the Glazer family and everyone involved in the interview process for their confidence in me.

Castricone also paid tribute to Deckerhoff’s legendary career.

There will never be another Gene,” Castricone said. “The thought of following in his footsteps is both humbling and exhilarating.

On game days, Castricone will work alongside former Buccaneers tight end Dave Moore. Moore has served as the team’s color analyst for the past 18 seasons.

Buccaneers broadcasts can be heard locally on 98ROCK and across the Buccaneers Radio Network throughout Florida. Fans can also listen through Buccaneers.com and the Buccaneers mobile app.

In addition to calling games, Castricone will contribute to team programming, digital content, community events, and fan engagement initiatives.

A graduate of Ohio University, Castricone earned a degree in broadcast journalism. He began his career in Columbus, Ohio, working as an anchor, reporter, and host for WBNS Radio and the Ohio News Network.
