The worst kept secret amongst Bucs Nation was announced Tuesday. The Buccaneers will debut their classic uniforms against the Jets on September 21, starting the 2025 season.

As the Buccaneers celebrate 50 years of gridiron history, they’ll pay homage to their roots by revisiting the same iconic look that debuted them as the NFL’s 27th franchise in 1976.

On Tuesday, the Buccaneers announced that they will bring back their iconic uniform design from 1976 for their 2025 home opener against the New York Jets on Sunday, September 21. While the team has returned to its Creamsicle roots for multiple throwback games since 2009, this is the first time since the franchise’s debut season that the original uniforms will be worn in a game. The return of The ’76 Jersey is not only a nod to the team’s 50th season but also a celebration of the many achievements during the seasons in between.

The ’76 Jersey represents a piece of Buccaneers history and serves as a tribute to the generations of fans and players who shaped this franchise. As we launch into our 50th season, we’re proud to reintroduce The ’76 Jersey and the tradition it embodies. It is a reminder that every Buccaneers fan, from the originals to the newest generation, is part of an evolving story that started in 1976 and continues being written today.

The Buccaneers’ 2025 throwback uniforms will faithfully recreate their 1976 debut look. Featuring white jerseys with orange numbers outlined in red, paired with white helmets, pants, and iconic striped socks. A special “Creamsicle” 50th-season patch will be added to commemorate the milestone. A unique touch will be hidden inside the collar, where the phrase “Hey! Hey! Tampa Bay!” – a nod to the team’s first fight song from 1979 – will be discreetly stitched.

The Buccaneers’ throwback uniforms were crafted in partnership with Nike. They did so by blending the classic 1976 design with modern performance features. The jerseys utilize Nike’s Vapor F.U.S.E. fabric. This fabric is made from 85% recycled material, and incorporates Dri-FIT technology and laser perforations for improved airflow and comfort.

Fans can get their hands on the throwback ’76 jersey online at shop.buccaneers.com. They can also get them in-person at the Buccaneers Team Store at Raymond James Stadium. The store is open Monday to Friday from 11am-5pm, Saturday from 12pm-5pm, with a special 10am opening on Tuesdays. Visit the dedicated ’76 Jersey homepage for more information.
