Baker Mayfield’s 2025 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be closely scrutinized, as fans and analysts wonder if he’ll sustain his recent career momentum or regress to the inconsistent quarterback he was earlier in his career.

With two strong seasons under his belt, Baker Mayfield has propelled himself into the top 10 among quarterbacks, and the stakes are now higher than ever Super Bowl title is likely the benchmark for his success.

Mayfield’s growth as a quarterback has earned widespread recognition, with many praising his development. Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame recently tapped an NFC evaluator to share insights on Mayfield’s progress, highlighting what’s working for the Buccaneers’ signal-caller.

“I think Mayfield is proof of the concept of coaching matters, systems matter, team build matters,” Verderame said. “But more than anything, if you can process quickly and get the ball out on time from the pocket, you don’t have to be 6-foot-5 to play in this league. He has become a professional quarterback as opposed to a college kid just running plays.”

Mayfield will face another new challenge with Josh Grizzard calling the plays, but having worked with Grizzard under Liam Coen last year, Mayfield’s familiarity with the coordinator’s system should help him adapt.

Mayfield is surrounded by talent, boasting one of the league’s most enviable receiving corps, a top-tier running game, and an often-overlooked yet excellent offensive line. It’s a potent combination that has aligned perfectly for a breakout season.
