Buccaneers Release Four Players Following Draft
The Enquirer/Scott Springer / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up an impressive draft weekend by signing several undrafted free agents. To make room for the newcomers on their 90-man roster, the team had to cut four players from their existing 74-man lineup.

To clear roster spots for the new undrafted signees, the Buccaneers released four players: second-year players Tanner Knue (wide receiver) and Daniel Grzesiak (outside linebacker), plus veterans Marquez Callaway (wide receiver with five years of experience) and Dallis Flowers.

Grzesiak joined the Buccaneers after the 2024 draft, initially making the 90-man roster before being released at cutdowns and subsequently re-signing to the practice squad. He spent most of the season there, but an injury in December landed him on the Practice Squad Injured List. With the team’s draft of fourth-round edge rusher David Walker, the Buccaneers now feel confident in their edge rusher depth.

Knue joined the Buccaneers post-draft and competed for the returner role in preseason. After being released during final cuts, he rejoined the practice squad in October. Knue was elevated for the playoff game against the Commanders, although he was inactive, earning a playoff check for his practice squad contributions. The team has bolstered its receiver corps with two draft picks and two undrafted college signees.

Callaway and Flowers joined the team simultaneously in mid-October, filling gaps due to injuries to Jamel Dean and Jalen McMillan. Flowers was elevated for two games, seeing limited special teams action, while Callaway was elevated for games against the Chiefs and 49ers. Although active in those games, Callaway didn’t record any receptions.

With the team’s draft of two corners and subsequent signings of Bryce Hall and Kindle Vildor, Flowers’ path to the regular roster looked challenging. However, despite the tough competition, the Buccaneers showed faith in Flowers, Grzesiak, Knue, and Callaway by signing all four to future contracts for next season.

None of the four players will participate in OTAs, as the Buccaneers need to make room for their latest undrafted free agent class. However, Knue and Grzesiak may have a chance to rejoin the team if injuries arise or new players underwhelm, given their existing familiarity with the system.
