The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are signing UDFA Defensive Tackle Desmond Watson to their Practice Squad via Greg Auman of Fox Sports.
“Bucs are signing former Gators DT Desmond Watson to their practice squad. The massive prospect has met their requirements to get in shape and can now practice with the team.”
Desmond Watson’s initial release by the Buccaneers wasn’t due to a lack of talent, but rather concerns about his weight and conditioning. Although he took part in the team’s offseason program, he struggled enough to be placed on the non-football injury list at the start of training camp. After several weeks on the NFI list, he was cleared and released from it in late August, only to be cut loose by the team.
At Florida’s Pro Day, Watson tipped the scales at 464 pounds.
No word on what the requirements were that Watson met. We’ll keep you posted as new information becomes available.
