The Buccaneers are taking a low-risk swing on upside by signing former Houston Texans defensive tackle Haggai Ndubuisi, a 25-year-old with one NFL appearance and an unconventional path.

One more signing from Bucs’ workout today: former Texans defensive tackle Haggai Ndubuisi. Born in Nigeria, played one game for Texans last year. Only 25, no college football. Could end up as Bucs’ International Pathway Program player.

Born in Nigeria, Ndubuisi never played college football, making his development curve far different from most prospects entering the league. That lack of traditional experience shows up in his limited résumé, but it also means there is still untapped potential if coached properly.

This is the type of move that fits the mold of a developmental lottery ticket—someone with raw physical tools who hasn’t yet been molded by years of structured football. Tampa Bay can afford patience here, especially along the defensive line where rotational depth is constantly needed. Ndubuisi will likely have to prove himself on practice reps and special teams before earning any meaningful defensive snaps, but the intrigue lies in what he could become with time.

There’s also a strong possibility he factors into the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program, which would give the Bucs roster flexibility while continuing his development. If that’s the route, it buys both player and team valuable time. At worst, this is a camp body with upside. At best, it’s a long-term project who grows into a rotational interior presence.
