Buccaneers' Todd Bowles Details 'Biggest Growth' Area For QB Baker Mayfield

The comeback story of Baker Mayfield since he arrived to be on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' roster is nothing short of superb.

On the NFL scrapheap, Mayfield is now seen as a top quarterback in football after two Pro Bowl seasons, making it to the playoffs in both years, and is coming off a career-best season that saw him throw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns.

With three coordinator changes in three years, Josh Grizzard, who was the passing game coordinator under Liam Coen last season, takes the wheel for Baker, and we've stated numerous times that the "differences" won't be as big as some have made them out to be, and many think he's set for a big year in 2025.

And for head coach Todd Bowles, in his mind, the biggest growth for Mayfield has come above the shoulders.

“Just the mental part of his game and grasping the offense," Bowles said. "Having been in offense for a year and coming back in the same system finally, I think he's really taken the bull by the horn, so to speak, and kind of just directing people the way and understanding where he wants it and having great conversations with Grizz [Josh Grizzard] on the field. That's been the biggest growth."

The Buccaneers are expected to win the NFC South for a fifth-straight year and go on a deep playoff run that might see them win the conference if the injury bug stays away.

Armed with weapons that are the envy of the league, Mayfield has everything needed to become a top 10 quarterback in football this season. He has the receivers, he has the run game, and he has the stout offensive line.

The mental aspect of having nearly everyone return from last year, along with a coordinator who is familiar with the system and quarterback, everything is pointing to the Buccaneers being a problem in 2025.

With Baker leading the way.
