The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were on the road on Monday night as they faced off against the Detroit Lions in an NFC showdown.
Of course, the Buccaneers entered the game with a 5-1 record, which had them sitting at the top of the NFC West standings as they looked to pick up a statement win over the red-hot Lions.
Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, they got off to a slow start, especially on the offensive side despite Mike Evans and Emeka Egbuka returning from injuries.
The Buccaneers trailed the Lions 14-3 at halftime and they were never able to make a comeback as they fell 24-9, causing their record to fall to 5-2.
While the loss was a tough one for the Buccaneers as the Lions’ depleted secondary showed up huge against Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay’s receivers, they suffered another massive loss in the game to their top receiver.
With a little over five minutes left in the second quarter, Mayfield tried to hit Evans on a deep pass that ended as an incompletion with Evans taking a hard fall to his right shoulder.
The star receiver then stayed on the ground in obvious pain and was later ruled out due to a shoulder injury.
PRAYERS FOR MIKE EVANS.

THIS LOOKED VERY SCARY.
Evans stayed down on the turf for a while, and it is now being attended by medical personnel, getting taken off the field.

Of course, this was Evans’ first game back after missing three games due to a hamstring injury that he suffered in Week 3 against the New York Jets.
After Monday’s loss, head coach Todd Bowles announced that Evans suffered a broken collarbone against the Lions and will be out for most of the regular season.

This is a major blow to the Buccaneers, who have been depleted with injuries to their skill players this season and they will now be without their top wide receiver for most of, if not all, the remainder of the regular season.
For Evans, this will also likely end his run of consecutive 1,000 yard receiving seasons, which currently sits at 11 and will require others to step up in his absence down the stretch for Tampa Bay.
With Evans now set to miss an extended period, expect Egbuka to continue to be Tampa Bay’s top receiver with Chris Godwin still out due to injury.
Tez Johnson, Cade Otton and Sterling Shepard should also have increased roles on offense throughout the rest of the season as the Buccaneers continue to fight for the top spot in the NFC West with hopes that Evans will be able to return before the playoffs.
