The Bucs have added another running back to their stable with starter Bucky Irving expected to miss at least one more game due to shoulder and foot injuries. Tampa Bay is signing running back Owen Wright to the practice squad. Wright was signed to the team in training camp and played with the Buccaneers in the preseason.
Fox Sports’ Greg Auman broke the news on his X account.

Owen Wright was signed during Buccaneers training camp when running back Josh Williams suffered a hamstring and was out of action for several weeks. Wright, a former Baltimore Raven, played in the preseason for Tampa Bay and ran the ball 26 times for 100 yards (3.8 avg.) and one touchdown. He had a breakout game against Tennessee in the preseason opener with 87 yards and a TD on 18 carries (4.8 avg.).
Bucky Irving, the Buccaneers’ starting running back, is expected to miss this Sunday’s game against the 49ers after missing last Sunday’s game at Seattle. Irving suffered shoulder and foot injuries in the Week 4 loss to the Eagles.
The team has three healthy running backs on the roster in Rachaad White, Sean Tucker and Williams. Tampa Bay hopes to get Irving back for the team’s Week 7 game at Detroit on Monday Night Football.
In order to make room for Wright on the practice squad, the Buccaneers released veteran guard Sua Opeta. That news was first reported by Fox Sports’ Greg Auman. Opeta’s release could signal the return of Michael Jordan from a Week 2 knee injury.
Jordan has missed practice for a month. There is a chance that when Jordan returns to full health he could be in play to compete with Luke Haggard for the starting right guard job. Haggard has started the last two games at right guard in place of Cody Mauch, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending knee injury in a Week 2 win at Houston.
