Bucs Make Massive Move On Coach Liam Coen

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers front office has just made a massive move with Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen ...

That keeps Coen from making a massive move himself.

Coeh, as first noted by ESPN, is "taking himself out of the running for the Jaguars’ head coaching job'' to instead remain with Tampa Bay on the strength of a new contract that now will position him among the highest-paid assistants in the NFL.

Coen, 39, had not called plays in the NFL before this season, making him something of a gamble when the Buccaneers brought him in as offensive coordinator last offseason.

In his lone season with that responsibility, though, he silenced any of those concerns.

The offense as a whole felt his impact, reaching top five marks in the passing and running game in the regular season. His work with the Bucs' ground game remains an incredible feat, developing a league-worst unit into a formidable force.

His most marked accomplishment, however, lies in his work with Baker Mayfield. The Tampa Bay quarterback posted the best season of his career in 2024 with highs across the stat sheet.

The Jaguars slated second interviews with three candidates for their head coaching vacancy. Coen was among that group that also includes Robert Saleh and Patrick Graham.

Jacksonville has demonstrated a strong interest in Coen for weeks now, having requested an interview with him in the lead up to the Bucs' NFC Wildcard loss to the Washington Commanders. It appeared that attraction had only gotten stronger.

But the Bucs effectively blocked a move ... with money. So Tampa Bay gets its continuity and keeps its man.
