Greg Rousseau has earned a major individual honor after helping the Buffalo Bills get off to a perfect start in the 2026 NFL season. The defensive end was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September, the team announced Thursday.

Rousseau made an impact in each of Buffalo’s first three games, consistently creating pressure and disrupting opposing offenses. His award reflects a strong opening month for a Bills defense that has helped the team establish itself as an early contender in the AFC.

The former first-round pick recorded six sacks and three forced fumbles across the three-game stretch, giving opposing quarterbacks plenty to worry about whenever he lined up on the edge.

Rousseau’s September performance began with a two-sack outing against the Houston Texans in Week 1. He also forced two fumbles, giving Buffalo multiple game-changing plays from its defensive front.

He followed that effort with another two sacks against the Detroit Lions. Rousseau added a forced fumble and four quarterback hits in a high-scoring matchup, showing that his impact went beyond the sack column.

The defensive end closed out the month with another two-sack performance against the Los Angeles Chargers. He finished that game with eight combined tackles, four tackles for loss and three quarterback hits as Buffalo secured an eight-point victory.

The award arrives as the Bills prepare for a Week 4 divisional matchup against the New England Patriots. Buffalo enters the game at 3-0, while New England is 1-2.

Rousseau’s ability to pressure the quarterback could be particularly important if the Patriots are dealing with injuries along their offensive line. However, his award does not guarantee another dominant performance, and the matchup will depend on how both teams adjust.

For now, Rousseau has given Buffalo a significant reason to celebrate. His production has made him one of the defining players of the Bills’ opening month, and the team will look for that pass-rushing impact to continue as it pursues a fourth straight win.
