Caleb Williams Gives Huge Compliment to Colston Loveland

With Colston Loveland being drafted 10th overall by the Chicago Bears back in the 2025 NFL Draft, there were already large expectations placed upon him from that moment. Especially when you take into account that the Bears already had Cole Kmet who they drafted 43rd overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Up to this point, things are going well for Loveland, and after a big rookie season, it’s fair to call him one of the best tight ends in the NFL right now.

Caleb Williams believes that Loveland can be even better than that. Per Sean Hammond on X, Williams said, "He can become the best tight end in the league."

It’s evident that Williams believes in his tight end, which should result in Loveland seeing an uptick in targets now that he’s had more time to work with his quarterback and get acclimatized to the NFL as well.

Colston Loveland Rookie Year Production

In year one, Loveland was heavily involved as a receiver right away. Last season, Loveland drew 82 targets and turned that into 58 catches for 713 yards (44.6 Y/G), 12.3 yards per reception, and six touchdowns. 

On PFF, Loveland earned an overall grade of 81.1, which ranks 5th among all 37 tight ends. When looking at the receiving grade of Loveland, that was even higher at 83.3, which ranks 3rd.

A few other stats that enhance this claim of Loveland being among the best in the NFL already are that his Passer Rating When Targeted was 123.1 (6th) and that his Y/R mark of 12.3 ranked 4th.

We’ve already seen Loveland dominate as a receiver, but the other question mark is how he can contribute as a blocker. PFF gave Loveland a 43.9 pass blocking grade, but that was just on 29 pass blocking snaps. For Loveland’s run blocking grade, that was up to 70 on 304 run blocking snaps. 

Loveland actually has to go out and prove it in 2026, but to hear Williams give this high of a praise should be exciting for Bears fans.
