Training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025 will feature some interesting position battles, but one that has been discussed almost seems to be solidified.

Eagles starting center Cam Jurgens appeared on the "Ross Tucker Podcast" to discuss his career and other aspects of the team as they enter the 2025 season. One topic Tucker and Jurgens discussed was the right guard position battle currently being waged between Tyler Steen and Matt Pryor, with the possibility of others being involved.

Jurgens shared his thoughts on the position battle that will officially take place in about a month. While he looks forward to working with whoever starts, Steen was the one guy he mentioned as being most comfortable with in the lineup.

"I'm excited. He's going to step in there and do a great job. I think we got a bunch of good guards that came in. There's going to be some good healthy competition throughout camp. I think it's always good going into camp season with some competition at some good spots and see who truly plays the best and earns that spot, so I'm excited for those guys. I think there's a few that fit in there and earn that spot, so I'll be watching that closely. That's for sure. I feel comfortable with Steen. I'm excited to grow that comfort with some more guys over there."

Jurgens' thoughts on Steen pretty much confirm the starting right guard

Jurgens is coming off his first year as the starting center, as he replaced the future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce. He started 16 games at center and earned his first Pro Bowl selection. The Eagles rewarded Jurgens with a four-year, $68 million contract extension in the offseason.

His thoughts on Steen are interesting, especially since the relationship between the center and guards is an important one on the offensive line. To be fair, Steen being on the team for the last two years plays a role in that comfortability.

Steen was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Eagles, as he played 11 games and made one start at tackle in his rookie season. Last year, he was once again on the bench as a backup, but found more playing time with injuries on the offensive line. He made two starts for the Eagles.

Throughout OTAs and minicamp, Steen has been taking the starting right guard reps with Pryor working with the second team. Some thought that new guard Kenyon Green might be in the running after being a part of the trade with the Houston Texans and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. That has not been the case with Green taking third-string reps on the left side of the line.

While no starter has been named for the Eagles at right guard, Steen appears to be the favorite and should be the starter when the 2025 season kicks off in September.
