Cam Newton Responds To Tua Tagovailoa's Controversial Comments

Cam Newton has found himself in the middle of quite a bit of beef ever since making the transition to the media space post-football.

It was bad enough when it was "Million Dollaz Worth of Game's" Gillie Da Kid following his Jalen Hurts comments. But now the former NFL MVP has a growing back-and-forth going with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

And it all started when Cam called Tua out on his early-season performance given the salary he's making from his four-year, $212 million contract.

Cam puts Tua's struggles in 'perspective'

Appearing as a guest on "First Take," Cam named off all of the quarterbacks Tua is making more money than as Miami remains winless.

"Tagovailoa is making more than Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, Matthew Stafford, Jayden Daniels," Newton listed. "Am I pocket watching? No, I’m putting things into perspective here."

"In this case, it should be more money, more expectations," the three-time Pro Bowler added. "… What you’re being paid, what you’re asked to do, what you have the capability of — from one quarterback to the other, I look at the situation like come on, dawg. Especially when you’ve got a Ferrari and a Lamborghini and other amenities that other quarterbacks wish they had."

Tua responds

Those comments obviously got back to Tua, who mentioned the ex-QB by name when he said that it's easier to critique from the sidelines than to be the one out there doing it.

"Well, anybody can play quarterback in this league then. I want to see anybody on the streets come and play quarterback," Tagovailoa remarked.

"Cam is doing his thing for sure, but I think it's easier to be able to hold a clicker and talk about it that way or talk about what someone else is doing wrong when you're not going out and having to do the same as them. I think it's easy to do that. I think anybody can do that. I don't think anybody can play quarterback."

Newton claps back

Continuing the war of words, Newton returned to the "First Take" desk where he played on Tagovailoa's "anybody can" phrase with one of his own.

"Anybody can go 0-3," Newton said on ESPN Friday. "When I see the situation that’s taken place in Miami, it’s more ‘Love Island’ drama than football. And, in large part, I wouldn’t say it’s all on Tua, but it is a main ingredient, and I just know what he’s capable of."

"There [were] times we’ve seen Tua Tagovailoa, and it was at a high-level. You don’t make $53 million … by just being a random on the street," Cam explained. "When you have Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill and Mike McDaniel as your coach, you have all the assets and amenities. You have once shown that you’re capable. I don’t know what this is in Miami now."

If history is any indication these likely won't be the last we hear from these two. But clearly Tua is frustrated with the situation with the Dolphins right now and it's going to take everyone moving in the same direction to get things corrected.
