Can Giants' Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson maintain their production?

The New York Giants showcased plenty of offensive production in Week 2 despite losing 40-37 on a last-second overtime field goal against the Dallas Cowboys

For the third time since 2020, the Giants scored at least 35 points in a game. It was also the first time since 2019 the Giants had two 100-yard receivers, and, for the first time since Eli Manning in Week 1 of 2013, a Giants QB threw for 450 yards.

Sunday marked the second time in Russell Wilson's career that he has thrown for at least 450 yards. Wilson set his career high with 454 yards late in OT before a failed screen pass resulted in a four-yard loss, bringing his total to 450, two less than his career high.

Along with Wilson's career afternoon, Wan'Dale Robinson and Malik Nabers hauled in eight catches for 142 yards and nine catches for 167 yards, respectively, as both receivers also found the endzone, with Nabers scoring twice.

In PPR fantasy leagues, not counting the two games yet to be played Monday, Nabers finished as the second-highest scoring player with 37.7 points — Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had 39.2 points — while Robinson finished eighth with 28.2 points.

Malik Nabers, Wan'dale Robinson could be next top duo for Russell Wilson

Many teams in the NFL have two top-level contributing pass catchers on their roster, such as the Cincinnati Bengals' Tee Higgins and Ja'Mar Chase, the Detroit Lions' St. Brown and Jameson Williams and the Los Angeles Rams' Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.

The Giants have not had two top contributors on their roster since the days of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, but over Wilson's career, he's made a habit of supporting at least two pass-catchers.

In the early stages of his career, Wilson had his preferred targets of Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate. With both players producing, Baldwin was Wilson's 1A target, with Tate as the 1B.

Then, Tate left Seattle, and Baldwin took over as the top target with newly signed Tyler Lockett taking over as the WR2. This trend continued with Baldwin's retirement in 2019, as during that year's draft, the Seahawks selected DK Metcalf.

Until Wilson's departure from Seattle in the 2022 offseason, Lockett was a top-20 receiver each year, while Metcalf was as well in 2020 and 2021.

Wilson's time with the Denver Broncos will be forgotten for a variety of reasons, and his one year in Pittsburgh saw good but not top-level production from wide receiver George Pickens and tight end Pat Freiermuth.

Wilson has a history of being able to support multiple pass-catchers, and Nabers and Robinson can be his next pair.

Can Russell Wilson unlock Wan'Dale Robinson's downfield ability?

Wilson has also made a name for himself as one of the best deep ball passers in the league, an area where the Giants have lacked for years. We've seen recently, though, that Nabers is one of the best jump-ball receivers in the league, essentially what Baldwin and Metcalf were to Wilson.

In four years, Robinson has yet to have a QB who can feature him downfield, as his career-long reception before Sunday was only 35 yards. Last season, he finished with 93 receptions, 13th in the league, while only finishing with 699 yards, 51st in the league.

Wilson may be able to unlock the downfield, big-play ability in Robinson. Even if that doesn't happen, Robinson is the perfect player to replicate what Tate and Lockett were to Wilson.

Two games in, there have been two polar-opposite results for Wilson and the Giants, as they struggled in a 21-6 Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders before their offensive explosion against Dallas. They look to continue their momentum against a difficult Kansas City Chiefs pass defense in Week 3 on Sunday Night Football.
