The New England Patriots went 4-13 in 2024 and then came back in the 2025 season and shocked everyone by reaching Super Bowl LX.
The New York Giants also happened to go 4-13 in the 2025 season. Is it possible for the Giants to be just like how the Patriots were this past year?
The Patriots struggled a lot in 2024, having a rookie quarterback, a bottom-five scoring offense and being loaded with injuries. In 2025, they hired a new head coach, Mike Vrabel. With Vrabel in charge, second-year quarterback Drake Maye thrived, and the defense exploded by reaching the top 10 in sacks. The lesson learned from this is that you can take a bad season, then have patience with your young QB, bring in a new head coach and reach the playoffs.
The Giants similarly struggled in 2025 as the Patriots did in 2024. Went 4-13, some heavy hits from injury and the rookie quarterback being inconsistent. However, there were still bright spots from this team; its upsets showed fight, and the defensive line was still one of the top in the nation.
Jaxson Dart will be entering 2026 as a second-year quarterback, like Drake Maye this past season, and the Giants were able to hire John Harbaugh as HC. Not to mention the Giants have the fifth pick in the 2026 draft, so if used correctly, they could find a missing piece through the draft.
The biggest problems stopping the Giants from recreating what the Patriots accomplished are the rough NFC East schedule and the possibility of more injuries. However, if injury doesn't hold them back, their offense could finally start clicking with Dart, Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers. The Giants have the pieces in place to be developed by an experienced coach, and if done right, could be a top team next season like the Patriots.
