Can We PLEASE Stop Talking About Trading Dolphins Veterans?!

Listen, Dolphins fans, can we please stop talking about trading veterans for Day 3 draft picks? That’s not what this team needs right now.

Let’s take a step back and look at the whole picture, shall we?

What were the main things we wanted to see this year? Consistent week-to-week improvement, especially from last year’s draft class and this year’s rookies. We also wanted to see whether Malik Willis could show us that he has the potential to be our franchise quarterback. On top of that, we wanted to find out if we finally have the right head coach and general manager.

Is everyone with me so far?

Right now, we’re getting everything we asked for.

This team appears to be improving every week. Our young players are becoming more consistent and aren’t getting dominated on the field. These young guys play hard, seem to learn from their mistakes, and look hungry to prove themselves.

Let’s not even get started on special teams!

Our coach seems to understand this team and what makes these players tick. And while it’s still too early to judge Sully’s first draft definitively, the early signs look pretty promising.

So why disrupt that progress?

This roster is thin, and we need our veterans to keep this team moving in the right direction. Their knowledge and experience matter, especially when you’re trying to develop a young roster.

Trading Austin Jackson, the team’s only right tackle, does nothing but hurt the development of this offense and Malik Willis. We need our wide receivers, running backs, and tight ends to keep developing. That gets much harder when you start removing the pieces that keep the offense functioning.

And trading Zach Sieler? He’s a major voice on the defensive line and an important part of that unit’s continued improvement. He’s a respected, lunch-pail kind of guy who brings leadership and toughness. You can’t just replace that with a late-round draft pick.

I know we all want to win games, too. Real Dolphins fans will always root for this team to win. That’s natural. But losing isn’t necessarily the worst thing for this franchise right now.

Of course, I hope we win a bunch of games. I just hope we don’t win more than everybody else!

If we go 0–17, so be it. It wouldn’t be fun, but we have to keep our eyes on the bigger picture. The process is what matters.

Remember when we beat the Bengals and hurt our chances of landing Joe Burrow? Those wins felt good at the time, but they came at the cost of our draft position.

We need to put ourselves in a position to get the first overall pick. That gives Sully the most flexibility and control to make the moves he believes are necessary to build this team the right way. And let’s not forget that having the first pick in each round on Days 2 and 3 would give us even more opportunities to add young talent.

Personally, I’m all for keeping this group together and watching it grow. We’re already seeing improvement, and I want to see how far these young players can go with the right support.

Everyone talks about patience, but when things get tough, it seems to disappear.

Now is the time to practice what we preach.

Let this team develop. Let the young guys learn. Let the coaches build something. And let’s stop sacrificing valuable veterans for late-round draft picks just because we’re frustrated with where things stand.

We all want a winner in Miami. But building a sustainable winner takes time, and we need to give this process a chance.

Trust the process. Be patient. Let’s see what this team can become.

Go Dolphins!
