GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals offense is entering the 2025 season with a heavy reliance on the marquee names. Last year’s 1st-round pick WR Marvin Harrison Jr. and Pro-Bowl TE Trey McBride will be the top targets for QB Kyler Murray. The duo were 28-year-old’s favorite target and were essentially the only effective receiving threat. However, Pro Football Focus believes that third-year WR Michael Wilson can be the X-factor entering next year.
PFF’s Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman named Wilson as a name to watch next season because he could be the last missing piece for Arizona’s offense.
“Marvin Harrison Jr. could soon be a star, and Trey McBride is one of the best tight ends in the NFL. The Cardinals need one more dynamic receiving weapon, though, and Wilson is the player they’re counting on. His 64.5 PFF receiving grade last season represents a slight decline from his rookie season in 2023. He also recorded fewer than 60 receiving yards in every game after Week 5 in 2024. If Wilson can break out in Year 3, Arizona’s offense could be a serious two-dimensional threat.”
Wilson tallied essentially the same amount of catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns in his first two seasons. The 25-year-old had his best stretch between Week 3-5 of last season. He was averaging 7.3 targets a game that equated to 5.3 catches for 60.0 yards. However, after Week 5, Wilson never had a game above 60 receiving yards or one game above six targets.
The offense has Wilson running short routes and doesn’t offer many opportunities to be dynamic in open space. Wilson was relied in short yardage situations but could be used for more with his 6’2 and 210+ pound frame. Harrison Jr. and Wilson are lanky receiving threats downfield for Murray that offensive coordinator Drew Petzing should draw up some deep route concepts for the duo.
