Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday that he still hasn't decided on quarterback Kyler Murray's status for the team's Week 9 contest against the Cleveland Browns.

“We’ve got to make sure we are doing the best thing for the team and the best thing for Kyler.”
Jonathan Gannon says they haven’t decided who will start for the #Cardinals at QB vs Browns Sunday. He said they’ll likely decide on the plane today or tomorrow whether it’s Kyler Murray or Clayton Tune. Said they’ve had a good week of practice.

The Browns, meanwhile, announced Friday afternoon that starting signal-caller Deshaun Watson will play for the first time since reaggravating a shoulder injury in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Murray suffered a torn ACL during Arizona's Week 14 "Monday Night Football" game against the New England Patriots in December 2022 and started the 2023 campaign on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. The 26-year-old Murray was designated to return from the PUP list in mid-October.
Gannon said earlier this week that it'd either be Murray or fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune lining up under center for Sunday's road game in Cleveland. Tune made his first and only appearance this season during the Cardinals Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, taking one special teams snap and completing a four-yard pass on a trick play.
28-year-old Joshua Dobbs started the first eight games for Arizona this year but was moved to the Minnesota Vikings hours before Tuesday's trade deadline.
If Murray is back as the starter in Week 9, he'll be returning to a different-looking offense from when he was last on the field.
His favorite target (former All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins) was released by the Cardinals in May. Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz and two-time Pro Bowl running back James Conner are both on injured reserve.
Former 1,000-yard wide receiver Marquise Brown is still healthy though and has suited up for all eight games this season. Brown leads all Arizona players in targets (69), receptions (38), receiving yards (416) and receiving touchdowns (four).
