Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald updated his will during COVID-19 battle

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did not have an easy time shaking COVID-19.

The all-time great, who will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame at some point over the next decade, was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Nov. 26 and missed losses to the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams, which dropped the Cardinals to 6-6 overall.

As Darren Urban noted for the club's official website, Fitzgerald lost his ability to taste and smell, his appetite, and nine pounds before he was activated by the Cardinals on Tuesday ahead of this weekend's matchup against the New York Giants.

The 37-year-old had other things on his mind than facing an impressive Big Blue defense while away from the Cardinals.

"I got my estate planning all done up again. I revised my will," Fitzgerald explained when speaking with reporters on Thursday. "I did a lot of stuff. When you're sitting at home and you're watching how many people are dying every day, you really kind of reevaluate things. It makes you appreciate the health that you have."

Fitzgerald tested positive for the virus on Thanksgiving and then began experiencing symptoms that Saturday. He felt unwell "for the next few days" before he embraced Peloton workouts to remain in football shape.

"Your mind kind of wanders," he said. "You're sitting at home and you're watching TV and you see the cases and you see the deaths across the nation and all these things are running through your mind. You worry. Fortunately, I was able to get through it. I feel much better. I still can't taste or smell anything but that's much better than what a lot of people are dealing with."

Fitzgerald added that he hopes to play against the Giants. The Cardinals offered no official update on his status for Sunday.
