On Wednesday, the Ravens agreed to acquire Jacoby Brissett from the Cardinals. The veteran quarterback will not make his Baltimore debut tonight, with finances having represented one of the reasons for a delay in the deal being finalized.
Baltimore is near the bottom of the league in terms of available cap space at this point in the season. Taking on the remainder of Brissett’s contract would have required other cost-shedding moves as a result. Instead, Arizona has agreed to restructure the 33-year-old’s deal to help facilitate this trade.
The Cardinals have converted $2.7MM of Brissett’s remaining 2026 salary into a signing bonus, per ESPN’s Field Yates. If the trade were to take place today, Baltimore would owe the remaining $2.7MM in base pay in this case. Presuming it is finalized after the Ravens’ Week 9 contest as planned, the team will owe Brissett $2.43MM moving forward. Brissett is a pending free agent.
Incentives are still available for Brissett, who received a raise this past offseason reflecting his status as Arizona’s starting quarterback to begin the 2026 campaign. After he was benched in favor of Gardner Minshew – a move which helped spark a comeback win in Dallas – though, Brissett was floated as a logical trade candidate for the Ravens in particular. Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury on his first snap back in action Sunday, and he is in line for another notable absence. Backup Tyler Huntley, meanwhile, will not return this season.
That leaves Baltimore with undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano to handle starting duties against the Jaguars tonight. Austin Reed and Kedon Slovis – added to the mix in recent days – will dress as the Ravens aim to end their three-game losing streak. The team will not play again until November 16, providing Brissett with time to acclimate to offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s scheme. He will arrive in Baltimore (his seventh career team) with a revised deal in hand.
