Tight end Trey McBride has featured only for the Arizona Cardinals since they grabbed him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Thus, McBride is quite familiar with what players do and don't experience whenever the Cardinals play home games at State Farm Stadium.
During a recent appearance on the "Bussin' With The Boys" podcast, McBride spoke openly about the football fans who live in and around the Arizona area.
"It’s like, living in Arizona, everyone — no one’s from Arizona," McBride explained, per Dan Morrison of Heavy. "Everyone comes and has moved in from another state. So, they’re all fans of their own teams. So, now you have the Arizona that sits there, and there’s no Arizona fans in Arizona."
In fairness, the Cardinals haven't necessarily given Arizona residents a ton of reasons to support the club in recent years. The Cardinals have made just one playoff appearance since the start of the 2016 season, and they haven't notched a postseason win since January 2016. Meanwhile, some think Arizona will finish the upcoming campaign with the league's fewest wins.
"So, it’s a tough deal," McBride added. "Hopefully, we start winning some games, and we can bring some of those fans back."
The Cardinals play at the division-rival Seattle Seahawks at least once each season, so McBride knows all about the atmosphere that Seattle's famous "12s" create during games.
"That’s a tough place to play," McBride said about Seattle. "Their defense is a bunch of s— talkers. They have a really good team, too. I feel like every time we go to Seattle, it’s such a hostile environment. Lumen Field is such a cool place to play, and they’ve gotten the best of us the last couple of times. So, it’d be nice to get back on the winning side for sure."
The Cardinals will host the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks in Week 2 of this season on Sept. 20. The Seahawks will welcome the Cardinals to Seattle for a Week 9 matchup on Nov. 8.
