The Carolina Panthers had a major injury shakeup prior to Wednesday's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns after Jaycee Horn was involved in a car accident on the way to team facilities.
Horn met with the team's medical staff and was held out of Wednesday's session but the initial belief was that he did not sustain any significant injuries. The full details of the accident have yet to be reported by local law enforcement.
After practice, Panthers head coach Dave Canales met with the media on the field and gave an update on his top defensive back.
"I'm glad that Jaycee was okay," Canales explained to reporters. "He did have to have a few stiches in his left thumb area. They did get that all cleaned up and sutured up. He is day-to-day right now, we're just going to evaluate that right now. It doesn't seem like anything else happened."

Naturally, with any car accident, other issues may eventually start to be present, which is why the Panthers plan to continue monitor Horn day-to-day.
Overall, that's certainly good news on the injury front that nothing major is wrong outside of the thumb, which is only going to limit him to an extent.
"He'll be able to still do some running, and activity, and all that," Canales added. "But he will not play (Friday against the Browns). Hopefully we can get him turned around so we can take advantage of an opportunity in Houston (next week) for that game, which was kind of the plan all along."
Next week, the Panthers are scheduled to have open practices on Monday and Tuesday with an off day on Wednesday. Then, on Thursday August 14th, the team will have another joint practice in Houston leading up to the second preseason game.
It certainly seems like Canales is hopeful Horn can return to the field as a full participant ahead of that second game next weekend.
In the meantime, the door is now open for another cornerbacks on the roster to step up on the defensive side of the ball and continue impressing the coaching staff, especially on Saturday in the preseason opener against the Browns.
