The Carolina Panthers currently have two of the three starting cornerback positions filled in, with Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on the outside as the top two players at the position. Carolina currently has a vacancy in the slot, leaving Chau Smith-Wade as the projected starter. Smith-Wade handled slot duties last season, and did alright, allowing 381 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a 105.8 passer rating, while recording one interception, a pick-six, and two pass breakups across 626 defensive snaps.
Because of this, the Panthers could draft a nickel for competition.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers will host Arizona Wildcats defensive back Treydan Stukes for a 30-visit this week. The 24-year-old Stukes has positional versatility, capable of playing in the slot as a big nickel and at safety, is a willing tackler, and an improving run defender. He is also very athletic, running a 4.33 40-yard dash and 1.5 10-yard split, recording a 38″ vertical jump and a 10’10” broad jump, and scoring a near-perfect 9.95 Relative Athletic Score.

Treydan Stukes was granted a sixth year of eligibility in 2025 after medically redshirting in 2024 due to a season-ending ACL tear in October, which also caused him to miss the first two games. He enjoyed a breakout redshirt senior campaign, posting career highs in interceptions and earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors. Stukes recorded 52 tackles, one TFL, one sack, four pass interceptions, and six pass breakups across ten games. He posted a 10.7% missed tackle rate and allowed a 59% completion rate, 213 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and an incredible 34.4 passer rating.
Stukes wrapped up his solid six-year stint at Arizona, totaling 206 tackles, 12 TFLs, one sack, seven interceptions, and 29 pass deflections across 52 games.
“Sixth-year senior and team captain who went from walk-on to unquestioned leader of his defense. Stukes combines his infectious passion with hours of preparation that allow him to play fast. He communicates well from zone and works quickly from route to route.
“He has work to do in man coverage but possesses an excellent feel for disrupting catch-points at optimal angles despite a lack of ideal length. Stukes is an older prospect and has an ACL tear in his background (2024), but the football has a magnetic pull for him. Coaches will love his football character and versatility as a big nickelback or split safety.”
He projects as an average starter.
