Carolina Panthers Minicamp: Bryce Young and Xavier Legette show encouraging signs of growth while top rookie WR was held out of practice

The Carolina Panthers held their second session of mandatory minicamp on Wednesday and were without a noticeable player on offense.

First-round pick Tetairoa McMillian was held of practice for cautionary reasons after experiencing a swollen leg that was caused by a kick during practice on Tuesday.

"He went down for a ball, got kicked in the leg, and swelled up, so just as a precautionary, just sat him out today," head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Wednesday. "Hopefully, we get him back out tomorrow."

It'll be an encouraging sight if McMillan makes it back on the field for the final day of minicamp and a sigh of relief. In the meantime, quarterback Bryce Young continued building a strong connection with the rest of his pass catchers.

It's clear Young's ownership of the offense is coming together with the way he carries himself on the field and coaches up his receivers, pointing out how he wants them to run certain routes, come back to the football, and create separation.

"It's the leverage he wants, whether he wants the guy to come back to him or come right back down his stem or uncover outside," Canales explained. "All the little nuances that part takes time, and it requires that kind of communication."

The communication and connection between Young and 2024 first-round pick Xavier Legette stole the show on Wednesday. Young connected with his top target for multiple touchdowns during practice and the two looked sharp in red zone drills after already having a strong day working together on Tuesday.

"It's just Year 2 in the system,'' Canales said about Legette. "He's comfortable. He's big and fast. The more he knows what he's doing, the bigger and faster he looks."

Following the first day of minicamp on Tuesday, veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen praised the growth Legette has taken going into his second-year, specifically mentioning the confidence and route nuance in his game as clear differences.

Given his raw size and physicality, confidence is the only thing Legette was missing to become the true alpha in this passing game.

Seeing him make those adjustments and seeing it come to fruition on the field is encouraging. And once this offense gets a healthy T-Mac on the field, we can really get an idea of what this unit is capable of in 2025.
