CBS Sports Crowns the NFL's All-Time Greatest Player

The greatest-of-all-time debate is a huge topic of discussion among fans of any sport.

On Wednesday, CBS Sports writer Bryan DeArdo threw his opinion into the mix with his top-25 players in NFL history.

Standing atop the list at No. 1 is legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady, who finished his 23-year professional career with seven Super Bowl titles and three league MVP trophies.

"It's hard to pinpoint when Brady ended the argument as the NFL's greatest player," DeArdo writes. "He firmly entered the conversation after leading the Patriots from behind against Seattle in Super Bowl XLIX. Brady entered "arguably the greatest" territory after he and the Patriots pulled off the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history against Atlanta. His last two titles -- especially his final one with the Buccaneers at age 43 -- cemented his legacy as the greatest winner and player the sport has ever seen."

Here's CBS Sports' full top-25 list:

  1. Tom Brady
  2. Jerry Rice
  3. Jim Brown
  4. Walter Payton
  5. Joe Montana
  6. Peyton Manning
  7. Lawrence Taylor
  8. Reggie White
  9. Barry Sanders
  10. Dan Marino
  11. Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes is the only active player on this list. Many view the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback as the biggest threat to Brady's GOAT status.

Brady, now a broadcaster for Fox Sports, was recently asked about his coverage of Mahomes.

"How can I throw shade at someone who's as amazing as he is?" Brady said in an interview with Complex Sports. "I know what he's been through, and I think the one position that I'm in now as a broadcaster, I do feel responsibility. A: To tell the fans what I see and be honest and upfront about everything. But also realize that what these guys are doing on the field is extremely difficult."
