As Cole Kmet pointed out during the first day of minicamp, only seven or eight NFL franchises have the luxury of avoiding turnover year after year. All of the other teams are either searching for the right coach for their quarterback or the right quarterback for their coach.
It seems that when you land that combination, you put yourself in a position to compete year after year. Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports released a ranking of the 13 new coach-quarterback combinations heading into 2025 based on who is poised to make the largest impact.
The Chicago Bears finished a respectable fourth out of 13. Here is what Benjamin had to say:
The latest in a long line of premium investments under center in the Windy City, Williams certainly had the energy of a No. 1 pick in his debut, though he often looked more frantic than focused beneath a frazzled staff. The challenge for Johnson, who arrives from the rival Lions with mighty expectations thanks to his ultra-aggressive hand in Detroit's turnaround, will be unlocking Williams' gunslinging gifts while keeping his freestyling in check.
There is a lot for Bears fans to be excited about when you consider pairing the number one selection of 2024 with the number one available coaching candidate in 2025. GM Ryan Poles has done what he can to build this roster into a winner. Now, it's up to Caleb, Ben, and the rest of the roster to go out and execute.
Benjamin had Geno Smith and Pete Carroll as his number one-ranked combination heading into 2025.
