Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert turned in a valiant effort on Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles as he played through a fractured left hand. The Pro Bowl QB plans on doing the same on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs in a matchup with major playoff implications for both teams.

Herbert is back on the injury report again after L.A.’s first practice of the week. The team provided an update on their star’s injury status after Wednesday's practice. Herbert also spoke to reporters, revealing that he had to undergo X-rays on his injured hand immediately after the Eagles game.

Herbert was far from his best on “Monday Night Football.” The 27-year-old finished with 12-of-26 completed passes for 139 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while also taking seven sacks. Herbert had 10 carries in the game for 66 rushing yards.

Herbert and the Chargers did just enough to edge out the defending champions, though. They secured a hard-fought 22-19 overtime victory, which improved their record to 9-4 heading into their Week 15 matchup against the Chiefs.

The Chargers announced on Wednesday that Herbert was a limited participant in practice. This does not come as a complete surprise, considering how it hasn’t been two weeks since he underwent surgery on his non-throwing hand.

According to Herbert, he had to get his left hand checked right after the Eagles game. The good news, however, is that “everything was clean for the most part.”  Herbert admitted he was sore on Tuesday, and the Chargers’ primary objective is to get the swelling down over the next few days.

At this point, Herbert is a full go for Sunday’s big game. It will be a road matchup for the Chargers as they travel to Kansas City to face a Chiefs side that is fighting to stay alive in the playoff race. Kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
