The Los Angeles Chargers secured a massive win against the Las Vegas Raiders, beating the divisional opponents 31-14. It moves them to an 8-4 record on the season, with four wins in the last five games.

They weren’t able to come out unsacked, however, as quarterback Justin Herbert injured his non-throwing hand early in the contest and briefly exited the game.

QB Justin Herbert’s Injury

Justin Herbert initially got the injury after scrambling and attempting to break a tackle from Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn. Chinn played it well and wrapped up Herbert’s legs before putting his helmet into the signal caller’s hand.

Herbert finished the drive with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Quentin Johnston, putting the Chargers on the board.

Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?

It was during the ensuing drive that Herbert went into the locker room to have his hand, wrist, and arm evaluated, forcing backup quarterback Trey Lance into the lineup.

Ultimately, Herbert was to re-enter the game and lead the Charges to victory.

Chargers Injury Update

In head coach Jim Harbaugh’s press conference after the game, he revealed that Herbert had “a break in the back of the hand (ring finger)” and is “gonna have a procedure done tomorrow (Monday).

Getting a surgical operation this quickly highlights the severity of the hand injury. However, this isn’t the first time Herbert has dealt with this.

He ironically also broke his finger back in Week 4 of the 2023 season against the Raiders. He ended up wearing a splint on the fingers and didn’t miss any games until his season-ending injury to his throwing hand in Week 14.

Given how tough a player Herbert is, hopefully, he’s able to recover and return to the lineup. The Chargers face a difficult stretch of opponents to close out the year, starting with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football next week. With Herbert leading the charge, they have the best chance to keep this team afloat and alive for the playoffs.
