The Los Angeles Chargers received some notable updates via a key executive on Wednesday afternoon. Both pieces of news will directly affect the team's offensive plan as they continue training camp.

Najee Harris likely going to NFI list

According to general manager Joe Hortiz, the veteran running back is likely to start training camp on the NFI list, due to his eye injury suffered during 4th of July festivities. Players can be removed at any point, so this is mostly just a procedural move for Los Angeles once it occurs.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted that it is expected to be a short stay for Harris on the list. The team is hopeful that he will be ready for the start of the season for Los Angeles.

Harris has impressed the coaching staff so far this offseason. The Chargers also drafted rookie RB Omarion Hampton in round one of the 2025 NFL Draft to help stabilize the running game for Justin Herbert's offense. Both are expected to play key roles this season for Jim Harbaugh.

An update on Tre Harris holdout

As for rookie wideout Tre Harris, the latest update does not present as much clarity or specificity. Harris is currently still not reporting to training camp since he has not signed his rookie contract with LA yet, according to the GM. He is one of 30 second-round picks that remain unsigned as of now.

The league-wide problem is the result of the first two rookies selected in the round signing fully guaranteed deals: LB Carson Schwesinger ( Cleveland Browns ) and WR Jayden Higgins ( Houston Texans).

Rookie deals for draft picks have pre-established values agreed by the NFL and NFLPA through their Collective Bargaining Agreement. However, guarantees and specific language for those guarantees are negotiated. When both Schwesinger and Higgins received fully guaranteed deals earlier in the offseason, they set a precedent that every agent wants to take advantage of. -- Mauricio Rodriguez
