Chargers finally get good preseason news thanks to Mekhi Becton

The 2025 season hasn't even started yet and the LA Chargers have already been through the ringer. With everything the Bolts have been through, fans understandably started to panic the longer Mekhi Becton sat out of practices during training camp.

Becton was out for weeks with what was originally described as a minor injury. It went from being minor to the Chargers not committing to whether or not the Super Bowl-winning guard would be available for Week 1. With Rashawn Slater already suffering a season-ending injury, Chargers fans were bracing for the worst.

Thankfully, the worst did not come for Becton. With concerns reaching an all-time high, Becton returned to Chargers practice on Tuesday, ending any worries over his availability in Week 1.

As long as everything is smooth sailing from this point on, which is a lot to ask out of the Chargers, Becton should be able to suit up for the Chargers in Week 1. Los Angeles has just over two weeks until traveling to Brazil to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, which is more than enough time for Becton.

The Chargers would have been in grave danger if Becton couldn't play to start the season. Jamaree Salyer would have likely played right guard, which would have been an issue while grouped alongside Bradley Bozeman and Zion Johnson in the interior.

This would have especially been an issue against a Chiefs team that not only has a great pass rush, but a scary interior pass rush as well.

Thankfully, Becton has turned a corner and is on track to make his Chargers debut against the same team he won the Super Bowl against. While this won't save all of the Chargers' potential offensive line issues, it does keep the issue from snowballing into something bigger to start the season.

The biggest injury question mark remaining in Los Angeles is running back Najee Harris, who suffered an eye injury during a firework mishap on the Fourth of July. Harris still has not participated in practice and has only done light jogging with a weighted vest around the practice fields.

Harris' situation is far different than Becton's and the clock is ticking for the former Steelers running back. The Chargers got good news with one injured player on Tuesday, hopefully there is more good news to follow in the coming days.
