Chargers sign former first-round pick to deal

The Los Angeles Chargers have signed a former first-round pick.

The Chargers on Wednesday announced that they have signed tackle Alex Leatherwood, who was a free agent.

Leatherwood, 25, is best known for being a first-round pick (No. 17 overall) by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021. The Raiders initially drafted Leatherwood to play right tackle, but he was moved to right guard. He lasted just one season with them before he was waived.

The Chicago Bears picked up Leatherwood and he appeared in four games for them at guard in 2022. Leatherwood was cut by the Bears during training camp last year. He spent the 2023 season on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.

The Chargers are giving Leatherwood a chance, but it is far from guaranteed that the Alabama product will be able to make their roster.
