D’Andre Swift has been highly impressive through the first three weeks of this season. The veteran running back has played an instrumental role for the Chicago Bears, helping them to a 2-1 start. The team announced an update about him on Thursday on social media.
Swift has 54 rushing attempts for 253 yards and three touchdowns in three games. He added eight receptions for 68 yards. The one-time Pro Bowler has given Chicago an almost automatic weapon who can secure first downs from the backfield. He will be relied upon even more as the team is dealing with injuries to several key players, including Caleb Williams. The good news is Swift is more than ready to step up and is proving tat he deserves his contract extension signed on Sept. 11.
The Bears uploaded a graphic of Swift on Instagram. It included his feat of surpassing 5,000 rushing yards in his career. He now has 5,028 after registering 84 during the 27-7 win on Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“And counting…” the team wrote.

Swift and the Bears will return to action on Sunday. They will host the New York Jets at Soldier Field with their sights set on winning their second consecutive game. Williams will likely miss the matchup as he is still recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained in Week 2 versus the Minnesota Vikings. Swift could receive the football via hand-offs from either Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum.
Both backups practiced on Thursday, leaving head coach Ben Johnson and his staff with a big decision to make. Whoever is named the QB1 will have Swift at his disposal and ready to once again produce an impressive performance. FOX will broadcast the Week 4 matchup starting at 1 p.m. ET. Chicago will then embark on a two-game road trip starting in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers.
