The Chicago Bears entered the bye week looking to get better at the basics after a 2-2 start under first-year head coach Ben Johnson. The Bears’ defense wanted to get better at understanding their assignments and tackling.

The offensive line needed to work on forging an identity and cutting down on pre-snap penalties. The Bears had another competition at left tackle after Braxton Jones exited Week 4. Johnson made the switch to give the offense a “spark” in Chicago’s 25-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Per Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bears announced Theo Benedet would be the starter in Week 6 against the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football.”

Bears right tackle Darnell Wright was limited in Friday’s practice with an elbow injury, but has no designation for Monday night. The Bears will have to decide between rookie Ozzy Trapilo and Jones for the swing tackle job against the Commanders
The Bears have a chance to get above .500 for the first time this season with a win on Monday night. Coming off the bye, the Bears need to strike with a rested roster.
