The Chicago Bears found a way to get two wins after Caleb Williams suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain in Week 2’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

The Bears used the passing game with veteran quarterback Case Keenum to skewer the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football” in Week 3. On Sunday, the Bears used a strong rushing attack that featured Kyle Monangai to beat the New York Jets 23-12 in front of a crowd of 59,702 at Soldier Field on Sunday.

During his postgame news conference, Bears head coach Ben Johnson told reporters that Monangai suffered an injury late in Sunday’s win. He has a thumb injury, which will be something to monitor before the Bears travel to play the Green Bay Packers in Week 5.

With Tyson Bagent earning his first start of the season, it was Monangai who was the featured back against the Jets. He rushed for 146 yards and two scores on 30 carries. D’Andre Swift finished with 58 yards on 15 carries.

The Bears finished with 232 yards on the ground, which aided Bagent, who struggled with accuracy against New York. He had several would-be interceptions that came off the board thanks to Jets penalties. He finished 25 of 34 passing for 268 yards and one interception.

Monangai rushed 10 times for 100 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers in the season opener. He rushed 20 times for 78 yards in the previous two games against the Vikings and Eagles.

Overall, the Bears are happy to be 3-1 after the first quarter of the season, especially with Williams out for two of those games. It’s unclear when he will return.

Chicago will next play a 2-2 Green Bay team next week that has struggled in recent weeks. The Packers defeated the shorthanded Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17-14 on Sunday. The Buccaneers were down to backup quarterback Jalon Daniels after Baker Mayfield suffered an injury in Week 3.
