Caleb Williams stayed healthy last season. He played in all 17 regular-season and two playoff games for the Chicago Bears. The quarterback impressed fans and led the team to the Divisional Round after they missed the playoffs in the previous campaign.
He surpassed his numbers from his rookie season, producing 400 more regular-season passing yards and seven touchdowns. Williams let his game speak for him and proved his doubters wrong by helping Chicago win the NFC North.
The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner will look to build on last year’s performance. He is putting in a lot of work in OTAs and showing more maturity as the leader not just of the offense but of the whole team.
The debate over the use of grass or turf as the surface of NFL stadiums continues. Turf is easier to maintain, and several teams have long used it. However, it has caused more injuries, and players have been vocal about it in recent years.
On May 6, NFLPA executive director JC Tretter reiterated that the union wants good grass fields.
“You don’t just want to pull out the (municipal) golf course grass,” Tretter said on the “Not Just Football” podcast. “On every field, you want high-quality surfaces. I think one thing is understanding what our players care about.”
A recent poll asked 1,700 players what their preferred surface was, and 92% said grass. Williams reposted a graphic from SayCheeseTV on his Instagram story on Thursday and included his request to the NFL.
“Let’s make that happen @nfl,” Williams wrote.

Last year, the NFLPA agreed to a new model for selecting playing surfaces. It requires teams to choose from an approved set of metrics and styles, and the policy will apply next season.
It goes without saying how important players’ safety is. Healthy rosters will only increase competition and bring out the best in the players. Williams knows this and wants to win against full-strength lineups in 2026.
