The Chicago Bears have found their quarterback in Caleb Williams. But if he were to suffer an injury, the franchise want to have proper backup options in place.
Chicago saw that situation come to fruition in 2026, as Williams missed three games with a hamstring strain. The Bears turned to Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent, who delivered a 2-1 record. Not many teams have the luxury of rostering two capable backup quarterbacks.
But now Chicago is in another dilemma. The Bears depleted their draft capital to acquire All-Pro Jeffery Simmons. While they aren’t regretting that decisions, the franchise’s war chest is a bit empty. Trading away a quarterback would at least help replenish the future.
At 6-2, the Bears aren’t necessarily thinking about trading pieces away. But teams in need of quarterback help will continue to look Bagent and Keenum’s way. That could force Chicago’s hand.
Clearly, the Bears like what they have in their quarterback room. All three have worked in tandem to improve. Still, Chicago has their eye on sustained success. Trading away Keenum could be the way to do that, Dan Graziano of ESPN argues.
“Quarterback Case Keenum,” Graziano wrote. “This is another team that I don’t think would be moving players. But teams always need QB help, and Keenum showed a little something earlier this season in relief of Caleb Williams. For the right offer, who knows?
Graziano isn’t reporting that Keenum, or Bagent for that matter, are on the trade block. With Chicago’s buyer mentality there aren’t many players that are. Still, the insider is connecting the dots towards a potential deadline move.
Take the Baltimore Ravens for example. They have lost quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley for potentially the entire season. Declan Doyle, who was with the Bears last season is now their offensive coordinator. Will his experience with Keenum and Bagent push Chicago and Baltimore towards a trade?
That’s an a question that will be answered when the deadline passes. But Bears fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility of a quarterback getting dealt.
