The Chicago Bears held their first practice with veterans and rookies together on Tuesday. That practice was not open to the media.

On Wednesday, the media were on hand at Halas Hall to watch practice and hear from Ben Johnson and a few players after practice.

The Bears had one notable absence during Wednesday’s practice.

Per Clay Harbor, the No. 39 pick in the draft, Luther Burden III, did not participate on the field. The wide receiver from Missouri suffered an injury during the second day of rookie minicamp earlier in the month before returning for the final practice on May 11.

“Didn’t see Kyler Gordon, Ryan Bates, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, Terrell Smith or Zah Frazier at practice today,” Harbor wrote.

Per Kaitlin Sharkey of WGN TV, Burden has a soft tissue injury. The Bears are unsure when he will return to practice.

Loveland wasn’t expected to practice as he recovers from a shoulder injury that required surgery on Jan. 29. He’s expected to return around the start of training camp.

These practices are voluntary, so it’s not surprising to see a player like Gordon miss.
