As the Chicago Bears were getting ready for their Week 15 game, there seemed to be some breaking news.
A new player went from active on Sunday to not able to play against the Cleveland Browns. Missing a star player will make things a bit more difficult in frigid conditions at Solider Field.
With just a few minutes before Week 15’s kickoff, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter took to social media and announced something Bears fans did not want to hear. Wide receiver Rome Odunze aggravated his foot injury and will now be ruled out for the game.
The setback could cause him to miss more games.
Odunze was been listed as questionable on Friday after being a limited participant in all three practices this week. The issue has been nagging the second-year receiver since October and will cause him to miss his second-career game.
Odunze has been the Bears leading receiver as he has posted 44 receptions on 90 targets for 661 yards (15.0 yards per catch) with six touchdown grabs. This is going to be a massive blow for the Bears offense, especially going up against the vaunted Browns defense.
Odunze has been dealing with heel and foot injuries for weeks and has been battling through the injury. However, it is going to be up to coach Ben Johnson to change the game plan a little bit after the talented receiver was officially ruled out.
The offense is going to depend on Caleb Williams to make some good reads and the running game to alleviate some pressure off the shorthanded passing game.
Without Odunze, expect to see more targets for DJ Moore and Luther Burden III. It is going to be interesting to see how this Chicago Bears offense looks with a massive blow right before the game even started.
