Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs couldn't get it done in Week 11, dropping their second-straight game after a 22-19 loss to Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. Now, the Chiefs sit at 5-5 on the 2025 NFL season, on the outside looking in on the playoffs, and the road doesn't get much easier, hosting the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12.
Mahomes struggled against Sean Payton’s defense, completing 29-of-45 passes for 276 yards with one touchdown and one interception. And he didn’t have his full starting offensive line intact, as rookie left tackle Josh Simmons returned from a four-game absence due to personal reasons. But against Denver, Kansas City’s offensive line took another hit.
Kingsley Suamataia, who played three seasons at Oregon and BYU, was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He opened his rookie year as the team’s left tackle but was benched after the first three games. This season, he moved to left guard and earned the starting role for Kansas City.
But in the third quarter against Denver, Suamataia was forced to leave early after hitting his head on the turf during a Mahomes interception. He was placed in concussion protocol and did not return for the remainder of the game.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs ruled Suamataia’s injury significant enough to keep him out of practice, and Mahomes could be without another offensive lineman yet again when Kansas City faces the Colts.
"Andy Reid said Kingsley Suamataia (concussion protocol) will not participate in today's practice," ESPN's Nate Taylor wrote on X.
