After a blistering 5-0 start to the new NFL season, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have now lost two straight games.

The Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the season in Week 7, losing to the defending champions Seattle Seahawks, 20-3. Kansas City dropped to 5-2 on Sunday after another loss, this time falling to the Denver Broncos, 28-24.

The Chiefs blew an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Broncos outscored them 15-0 in the final frame, marking Denver’s fourth consecutive win.

Mahomes completed 30 of 41 passes for 321 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. The two-time NFL MVP’s strong performance was not enough to carry the Chiefs to victory.

Mahomes, though, made a bit of history during the loss. Mahomes recorded his 49th regular-season game with at least three touchdown passes, surpassing Peyton Manning and Dan Marino for the most by a player in his first 10 NFL seasons.

The Chiefs took to social media to announce the news.

“3 IS a magic number ‍↕️ Congrats, @patrickmahomes!” the team posted on Instagram.

Mahomes reached the milestone with a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Noah Gray with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter.

The Chiefs went up 24-13 after the extra point. However, that turned out to be Kansas City’s last score of the game. Denver answered with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, a two-point conversion and an extra point to complete the comeback at Empower Field at Mile High.

Denver improved to 6-2 after the win and is now first in the AFC West. The 5-2 Chiefs have dropped to second place for the first time this season.

Mahomes and Co. will look to snap out of their two-game losing streak in Week 9. They return home to host the 2-6 New York Jets on Nov. 8. Kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
