Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t get back on track in Week 8, falling to 5-2 on the 2026 NFL season after a 28-24 loss to Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos in Mile High City. Now the Chiefs will return to Kansas City in Week 9 for their fourth home game of the season, hosting Geno Smith and the New York Jets.

Kelce, in his 14th NFL season, has continued to be one of the top receiving threats in the Patrick Mahomes-led offense. Through seven games, the former Cincinnati Bearcats tight end has tallied 29 catches for 410 yards and two touchdowns, all of which lead the Chiefs this season.

But despite playing in every game at age 37, so far, Kelce has found himself on the injury report over the last few weeks.

Ahead of the Chiefs’ Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Kelce was listed on the injury report due to an ankle injury. And while he was able to return as a full practice participant ahead of the Week 8 loss to Denver, the Chiefs still had Kelce listed on the injury report with the same ankle issue.

Kelce has also remained on the injury report heading into the Week 9 matchup against the Jets. He was initially listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, but the Chiefs upgraded him to a full participant on Thursday, easing concerns about the tight end’s status for gameday.

Like Kelce, wide receivers Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee) and Nikko Remegio (hip) were also limited on Wednesday, but were upgraded to full participants on Thursday as well.

“Chiefs injury report for Thursday is out,” The Kansas City Star’s Pete Sweeney wrote on X. “Travis Kelce (ankle), Nikko Remigio (hip) and Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee) have been upgraded to FULL participants. Mansoor Delane (shoulder) and Omarr Norman-Lott (knee) remain LIMITED.”

Kelce and the Chiefs will face the Jets on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
