Chiefs DC: HC Andy Reid will decide if Willie Gay Jr. plays vs. Bills

Arguably the most anticipated contest of the upcoming weekend of NFL postseason action involves the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Buffalo Bills in a rematch of last January's AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium. However, the Chiefs found themselves in headlines for different reasons Thursday when it was learned that linebacker Willie Gay Jr. had been arrested Wednesday night for misdemeanor property damage following a reported argument he had with his son's mother.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Gay did not participate in Thursday's practice session, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo told reporters head coach Andy Reid will make a final call on Gay's status for Sunday's showdown at a later time.

"I'm sure he'll address it," Spagnuolo said of Reid, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN. "But if this happened in a game and it was an injury, we'd just operate that way. But we'll see what happens.''

As Sam McDowell wrote for The Kansas City Star, no drugs or alcohol were involved in the alleged incident, and nobody suffered any injuries. The police report claims a vacuum, cell phone screen, wall/door frame, and humidifier were damaged.

Reid will speak with media members on Friday.

During the 2021 regular season, Gay tallied 48 total tackles, two interceptions, 0.5 sacks, and four pass breakups across 12 games and 11 starts.
