The Kansas City Chiefs won't have their best wide receiver on the field for OTAs.
Rashee Rice violated his probation, and he's now serving 30 days of jail time, just days after undergoing knee surgery.
That's obviously a less-than-ideal scenario, given that he was looking at a two-month recovery with the resources the Chiefs would offer him, which he won't have access to while in jail.
According to sports doctor Jesse Morse, this could actually be a catastrophic issue for Rice's career.
“To say this is a nightmare scenario for your star receiver, Rashee Rice, is an understatement,” Morse shared on his X account. I don’t think we will truly know how far along Rashee Rice is until late July / early August. Lots of things can go wrong between now and then.”
Morse's concerns stem from Andy Reid's latest comments on Rice's recovery.
The Hall of Fame head coach said he trusted the jail's medical staff to help him avoid infection.
That's definitely not what you want to hear from your WR1, especially as he enters a contract year.
There were already major doubts about whether the Chiefs should trust Rice with a long-term deal, given his erratic behavior off the field and history of injuries.
This puts the Chiefs in a tough spot, and they should be looking to add some insurance for their underwhelming wide receiver corps.
