Chiefs' injury situation is the complete opposite of the Chargers' injury situation heading into Week 4
USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers have released their first injury reports ahead of their Week 4 tilt on Sunday afternoon.

The two injury situations couldn't possibly be more different. The Chargers are ailing right now, with more snake-bitten injury luck, which has been their modus operandi in recent seasons. A total of six players on their 53-man roster were missing from Wednesday's practice. Many of them likely won't practice or play this week.

As for Kansas City, they're about as healthy as you could ask to be through three weeks outside of their two key offensive players on injured reserve in WR Hollywood Brown and RB Isiah Pacheco

Here's a look at the initial injury situation for both teams. . .

Observations:

  • Everyone on the 53-man roster practiced in full capacity for the Chiefs on Wednesday. That's about as good as you can hope for at any juncture of the season.
  • Only four players were listed on the injury report, with three of the injuries being new compared against last week's report.
  • Each of Bolton, Rice, and Watson finished the game against the Falcons on Sunday night.
  • The most concerning injury here is Watson, who played through practically the entire 2023 NFL season with a torn labrum.

KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related

Observations:

  • The Chargers' offensive line could be down to their fourth-string tackle (Foster Sarell) and playing a guard (Jamaree Salyer) at tackle for Week 4 with injuries to Alt, Slater, and Pipkins.
  • Things aren't much better on defense with absences at nickel, linebacker,  and defensive line.
  • The cherry on top is that Herbert is limited after playing on one ankle a week ago. There's a chance that Taylor Heinecke is in line to start against Kansas City.
