Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs had their best win of the 2025 NFL season in Week 7, defeating Pete Carroll and AFC West rival Las Vegas Raiders 31-0. Then, the Chiefs looked to make it three straight wins in Week 8 as Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders came to town for "Monday Night Football."
But Kansas City’s Week 7 win didn’t come without setbacks. Pro Bowl right guard Trey Smith suffered a back injury against the Raiders, keeping him out of practice all week ahead of the Week 8 matchup. Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott also tore his ACL in the game, ending the second-round rookie’s season. And rookie left tackle Josh Simmons remains away from the team due to family matters.
On Monday, with both Norman-Lott and Smith ruled out for the Chiefs’ matchup against the Commanders, Kansas City elevated defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu and offensive guard C.J. Hanson, providing Reid’s squad with some much-needed depth.
Tuipulotu was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent three seasons in Philadelphia, appearing in 28 games and recording three sacks, before joining the Chiefs in 2024, where he has appeared in two games. Hanson, meanwhile, was drafted by Kansas City last year and has spent most of his young career on the practice squad.
"The Chiefs have elevated OG CJ Hanson and DT Marlon Tuipulotu for tonight‘s game against the Washington Commanders, per source," Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick wrote on X.

Following the Week 8 matchup against the Commanders, Reid and the Chiefs will be back in action in Week 9 with an AFC Championship rematch on the road against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
